TermDefinition
A ratio is a comparison of any two quantities.
The order of the quantities in a ratio is directly related to the order of the quantities expressed in the relationship.
A ratio can compare part of a set to another part of the same set (part-part comparison).
A ratio can compare part of a set to the entire set (part-whole comparison).
Percent means “per 100” or how many “out of 100”;
percent is another name for hundredths.
Percent can be expressed as fractions with a denominator of 100
Percent are used in real life for taxes, sales, data description, and data comparison.
Fractions, decimals and percents are equivalent forms representing a given number.
The decimal point is a symbol that separates the whole number part from the fractional part of a number.
The symbol . can be used in Grade 6 in place of “x” to indicate multiplication.
Integers are the set of whole numbers, their opposites, and zero.
Zero is an integer that is neither positive nor negative.
When comparing two negative integers, the negative integer that is closer to zero is greater.
The absolute value of a number is the distance of a number from zero on the number line regardless of direction.
On a conventional number line, a smaller number is always located to the left of a larger number (e.g.))
To convert a percent to a decimal move the decimal point two places to the left.
To convert a decimal to a percent move the decimal point two places to the right.
A numerator is the top part of a fraction.
A denominator is the bottom part of a fraction.
Unit rate is a ratio boiled down to a single unit.
Whatever you do to one side, do the same thing to the other.
An inverse operation means to do the opposite calculation to the one that is given.
To simplify a fraction Divide the numerator and denominator by the same amount.
The absolute value of -6 is 6
